Michael Bazzett is the author of The Echo Chamber (Milkweed Editions, 2021), as well as three other collections of poems, including The Interrogation(Milkweed, 2017), and You Must Remember This (Milkweed, 2014) winner of the Linquist & Vennum Prize for Poetry. He's also published three poetry chapbooks, including They: A Field Guide (Factory Hollow, 2024), which was the editor's choice selection for the Tomaž Šalamun Prize, and The Temple, (Bull City, 2020) the editors' choice selection for the Frost Place Prize.
His verse translation of the Mayan creation epic, The Popol Vuh, (Milkweed, 2018) was long-listed for the National Translation Award and named one of the best books of poetry in 2018 by the New York Times. His translations of the poetry of Humberto Ak'abal have appeared widely, in venues such as Modern Poetry in Translation, Latin American Literature Today, and The Common, and a collection, If Today Were Tomorrow, was published by Milkweed Editions in 2024.
Bazzett is a 2017 National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellow, as well as winner of the Bechtel Prize from Teachers & Writers Collaborative. His work has appeared in Ploughshares, The Nation, GRANTA, Guernica, American Poetry Review, Copper Nickel, The Sun, and The Paris Review.He lives in Minneapolis, where he teaches high school English at The Blake School.
