Poetry.

Chapbook. 20 pp. 5.5 x 8.5 in.

In Vulturine, Andy Nicole Bowers grapples with the unbidden yet undeniable perception of beauty in bodies that speak of suffering. Here, preserved specimens and anatomical illustrations are juxtaposed with medieval woodcarvings, Northern still lifes, and contemporary photographs and sculptures. Ultimately, these poems ask how, through an engagement with bodies racked, opened, stilled, fragmented, “the mind recovers love."

Andy Nicole Bowers collects chalkware saints and aging taxidermy specimens. A recent graduate of the M.F.A. for Poets and Writers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, she is now pursuing an M.A. in the History of Art and Architecture.
